Carlo Giuseppe Testore 1695-1700

Carlo Giuseppe Testore is known as one of the first and the most excellent craftsmen in the Testore family in Milan of the 17th century.

He was born in Novara in 1660, and moved to Milan in 1683 where he worked with his master, Giovanni Grancino, all through his life to leave many pieces of artwork to the following generations. His strong character is felt from his artwork and is said to have influenced Guarneri del Gesu in the following generation. Many of his violins have high quality sound for high level of practicality, for which it has been loved and played by many celebrated musicians so far.

This violin was made between 1695 and 1700, when Testore was most energetic in his life. Its organic arch shows obvious influence from Amati, and its pointed sound hole reminds us of Guarneri.

A soloist may feel its amazingly powerful sound with delicate density , and the sound reaches far keeping abundant richness.
